Tesla has officially launched its highly anticipated Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas — and now we’re getting our first look at the Robotaxi app powering this futuristic ride experience.
Through a dedicated section of the regular Tesla mobile app, select users can now request driverless rides from a fleet of autonomous Model Y vehicles cruising around Austin. This marks a significant milestone in Tesla’s autonomous vehicle journey, offering early access riders a taste of Level 4 driverless transportation.

Robotaxi App Interface: Familiar, Clean, and Built for Simplicity
Tesla has opted to integrate Robotaxi access within its existing iOS app, rather than launching a standalone platform. Once downloaded or updated, users are greeted by a streamlined sign-in screen featuring Tesla’s signature Model Y Robotaxi image.
Upon logging in, the interface resembles other ride-hailing apps, with options to select pickup/drop-off points, set cabin preferences (like temperature), and receive real-time vehicle tracking as the robotaxi arrives.

Robotaxi app Smart Features Make Autonomous Travel Feel Human
Tesla has embedded smart suggestions and useful rider tips directly within the app. While waiting for pickup, users can view:
- How-to guides for operating the Model Y’s door handles
- Signal light meanings
- Recommended nearby destinations, including cafes, parks, shopping centers, and restaurants
These thoughtful touches aim to normalize the driverless experience and educate first-time riders on what to expect.

Robotaxi Cybercab Color Theme Adds Style
Tesla fans will notice a Cybercab-inspired gold-and-black theme across the app interface. The golden hues nod to Tesla’s future two-seater Cybercab model and give the app a futuristic visual identity, right from the login screen.
Robotaxi Pricing: $4.20 Flat Rate, No Tips (Yet)
In its early phase, Tesla’s Robotaxi service is available at a flat $4.20 fare per ride, regardless of distance or time. Notably, tips are disabled for now. Attempting to tip brings up a cheeky screen featuring Tesla’s hedgehog mascot and the phrase: “Just Kidding.”
This signals Tesla’s commitment to affordable, predictable pricing as the service scales. Tipping options may return in later versions as the fleet expands and public access broadens.

Robotaxi Limited Fleet, High Expectations
Currently, only 10 to 20 autonomous Model Ys are operating in Tesla’s geofenced Robotaxi zone in Austin. Rides are limited to members of Tesla’s Early Access Rider program, including select community figures and longtime owners.
Tesla says the service runs daily from 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM, with operating hours subject to change based on weather or operational conditions.
🚀 What’s Next for Robotaxi ?
Tesla’s Robotaxi platform is expected to evolve quickly, with plans to expand the fleet, add new cities, and possibly debut the highly anticipated Cybercab — a vehicle purpose-built for autonomy. This app launch marks the first public-facing step toward Elon Musk’s long-promised autonomous ride-hailing network.
