Cloudflare has officially launched a groundbreaking tool designed to help website owners take back control—and revenue—from AI crawlers scraping their content for free. The announcement, made on July 1, marks a major turning point in how the internet could be monetized in the AI era.

According to Cloudflare, Google’s crawler-to-visitor referral ratio has dropped from 6:1 to 18:1 in just six months. Worse, AI firms like OpenAI show ratios as high as 1,500:1 — indicating virtually no traffic is returned to content creators.

And while traditional search crawlers used to provide visibility, many AI bots now bypass robots.txt rules, quietly extracting data without consent or payment.
