LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 — Sydney Sweeney is reclaiming her peace.
Amid months of speculation about her political beliefs and backlash surrounding a controversial ad campaign, the Euphoria star is standing firm in who she is and what she stands for. In a new interview with GQ published Tuesday, the 28-year-old actress and producer opened up about navigating public scrutiny while staying focused on her career and personal growth.
“I’m not going to be affected by what people assume about me,” Sweeney said. “I know who I am. I know what I value. I know that I’m a kind person. I know that I love a lot, and I’m just excited to see what happens next.”
Unbothered by Controversy
Sweeney’s comments come amid online debates over her upcoming biopic Christy, where she portrays boxing champion Christy Martin, as well as fallout from her American Eagle campaign titled ‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.’
The campaign — which used the word “jeans” as a playful nod to “genes” — sparked criticism from some who accused the ad of promoting eugenic themes. But Sweeney isn’t letting the internet noise distract her from her goals.
“I did a jean ad,” she said simply. “The reaction was definitely a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life.”
Despite the controversy, the actress emphasized that she doesn’t measure her worth through public opinion. “If somebody is closed off because of something they read online to a powerful story like Christy, then I hope something else opens their eyes to being open to art and learning,” she said. “I’m not going to be affected by that.”

“I was filming Euphoria while all that was happening,” she revealed. “I work 16-hour days and don’t really bring my phone on set. I go home, sleep, and start again. I didn’t really see a lot of it.”
Even when unexpected figures like former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance publicly expressed support for her after the controversy, Sweeney said she didn’t dwell on it. “It was surreal,” she admitted, but added that she wasn’t “thankful” or “unthankful.” She simply chose to move forward without overanalyzing the situation.
